The Pumpkin Regatta is a tradition loved by all of Goffstown. Every year during the second weekend of October, the citizens of Goffstown, New Hampshire gather downtown on main street to eat, shop, and watch all the fun activities. The star of the show is the pumpkin race that occurs on the second day of the festival. Contestants build elaborate giant pumpkin boats with motors and other devices that will help them win the race. Everyone gathers around the main street bridge and cheers on the race.
Contestants dress up in costumes to go along with the design of their pumpkin boat and race all the way down the river. This year’s winner was Chase Pyer from Foremost Builders.
A local business Apotheca Flowers & Tea gives some insight on the crazy day. John Shaver, a barista at Apotheca says “It’s main street’s busiest weekend of the year.”
