The Goffstown High School volleyball team, having an 14-3 record this season, faced a challenge as they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Nashua South. With only one game left before the playoffs, the team is now focused on addressing the issues that led to the loss.
The match against Nashua South was marked by a lack of preparation and a misjudgment of the opponents, “Even before the match started, we went in with the mentality that this was an easy win,” Julianne Danis, an outside hitter from Goffstown said. “We also knew not to underestimate them, but we did, causing shock in our team with no effective response to match their team energy.” The team also struggled to maintain consistency throughout the game.
Players acknowledged that the points scored by Nashua South were a result of their own mistakes. “Our performance was not the best as most points earned by the opposing team were our mistakes,” Julianne said. “If we cleaned those up, we most likely had a better shot at winning, but with the amount of mistakes, there was just no way.
The bickering played a role in the game, and they also struggled with being consistent whether it was defense or offense.” Nothing was consistent and it killed us” Julianne stated. As they prepare for their final game, the focus is on improving both skills and teamwork . “It starts with team gel/dynamic, and the skills come after that.”
Despite the loss, there were bright spots in the match, Dana Still an outside hitter at Goffstown High school had a great performance, who excelled in passing and hitting, Teagan White a libero at Goffstown High School stated. But the team must focus on making smarter plays. “The team can improve on making smart plays on offense and being smarter with setting consistent hitters,” Teagan White suggested.
As the Goffstown High School volleyball team prepares for their final game before playoffs, they are determined to overcome their recent challenges.
