A rush of students flow in at the early morning start of ApplyNH, a feeling of nervousness in the air. Students sit in the library with computers to finish their applications, taking time to answer the supplemental questions. Some students are scared to hit the submit button on their applications whereas others are ready to embrace their next chapter.
ApplyNH is a great opportunity for students to apply to New Hampshire colleges while waiving the application fee. Students spent a part of their day in the library of Goffstown High School on November 7, 2024. From those who applied, Ms. Fall- a guidance counselor at GHS- mentions that roughly 89 out of the 117 students used the checkout QR code. This helped counselor know what colleges students applied to. From those 89 students who did fill out checkout form, around 250 applications were submitted, mainly all to New Hampshire colleges.
Skylar Chase, a senior at Goffstown High School, stayed for around three hours applying to five different colleges. Chase felt that she was “well prepared, [she] had all of [her] essays done and had all of the information prior.” Though Chase noted that while her applications are in she is waiting for her transcript to be submitted to the schools.
As more and more students hit the submit button the feeling of fear wore off and confidence grew. Students rang the bell, a privilege saved for those who submitted their applications. Students signed the banner and grabbed candy after applying as well. Relief of hitting apply was a feeling many students felt in the library throughout the day.
Ms. Fall is appreciative of being able to have this day for students and a highlight of the day for Ms. Fall is “the first wave of students as they’re coming in” where the energy and buzz is starting to build up. What keeps “filling up” Ms. Fall on adrenaline is being able to see the banner filled with signatures and hearing the bell ring. This is the fourth year GHS has done ApplyNH and it turned out to be a success with 117 students in total participating in this eventful day.
