Goffstown High School held a successful homecoming dance Oct. 14 where students enjoyed music, dancing, socializing, and showing off their school spirit as they created memories to last a lifetime.
The homecoming dance is a yearly tradition at GHS that usually falls in October after the fall sports play their last home games. Students compete in challenges, support their sports teams, and participate in dress up days all of homecoming week. Then, on the Saturday at the end of the week, students celebrate at the dance where one of the classes is announced as the overall winner of homecoming. This year it was the seniors. The dance began at 7 p.m when students were admitted into the high school. Loud music was bumping and bright LED lights were flashing from the DJ booth in the gym where the dance was held.
The music at the dance received mixed reviews. This year, there were QR codes around the gym that students could scan to request a song. Sophomore Emma Eastman said, “It was fun, but the music was better last year.” Another sophomore, Paige Winters, said that there were times when it felt like filler songs were being played in between many of the good songs.
Overall however, the dance was successful and many students emphasized how fun the dance was for them. Freshman Addyson Glejzer expressed how her first homecoming dance was a great experience. She enjoyed getting ready with her friends before the dance, socializing, and dancing. Spanish exchange student and sophomore, Sofia Esteban, mentioned that there weren’t any school dances in Spain and exclaimed, “[The dance] was amazing, so much fun.” Her only complaint was how much her feet hurt after dancing all night long.
At the end of the dance, around 10 p.m. the seniors were announced the winners of homecoming with the juniors as the runner ups, followed by the sophomores and the freshmen. Soon after, everyone began to file out of the gym after one last slow song to end the night. Sophomore Mia Brissette sums up the night as, “a lot of fun and a great way to spend time with friends.”
