On Tuesday, November 7th, the library will be closed in the morning. The area will be used to host a breakfast to honor Goffstown and New Boston Veterans. The event will run from 9 a.m., at which time the Student Government will be serving a continental-style breakfast to members of the community.
During school hours, 15-30 relatives of the student council will sit and enjoy a delicious breakfast. This will include a slide show presentation and thank you speeches presented by student government and student council advisor, Senora McKinnon. This breakfast replaced the Veterans Day assembly previously facilitated by the student government for several years.
The feedback to this change has been positive among the participants. According to the Student Council Executive Board President, Kyla Pothier, “They enjoy doing a smaller breakfast just because they get to know the students a bit more on a more personal level and we get to know them. They get to talk just one-on-one with a few students and their stories can be heard.”
Sophomore Class Secretary Emma Bird describes the event, “Veterans from the community come in and we sit down and we serve them food. We talk to them about their experiences. Some come in with speeches already prepared.” This gives the students time to speak with the veterans and learn about their experiences. Emma goes on to say, “It’s a really meaningful way to get to know them and learn their stories.”
To the Veterans of Goffstown and New Boston community, on behalf of the GHS we would like to thank you for your service and wish you a Happy Veteran Day. If you would like additional information about this event, contact your Student Government Representative or Senora McKinnon.
