Seven Goffstown High School student council members took a 45 minute trip over to Pelham high school for their Fall district meeting on October 18th to discuss the 4 C’s of teamwork; community, conflict, change, and challenge.
A district meeting consists of seven schools including Londonderry, Goffstown, Bedford, Pinkerton, Campbell, Pelham, and Windham. At this meeting, schools are able to connect and interact to find things that are similar among their councils and see what might be different that can be implemented at their schools. For instance, last year GHS implemented a project known as KATE, which is a journaling project between students and teachers. This was implemented from the winter district meeting at Londonderry high school last year. With skills such as teamwork, the council can become stronger and work better together to ensure that the council is providing what is best for the school community. “ A district meeting is a conference that only schools from the central district attend whereas a state meeting hosts every student council in New Hampshire from both districts” says a senior student council member.
While attending the fall district meeting, members played “hungry, hungry, humans, human knot where [they] held hands and unknotted [themselves], pictionary and a blindfolded maze. For the last event of the night [they] talked about what was going well and maybe not so well within [the] student council allowing for a very interschool connection to be made” according to a senior in student council. Hungry hungry humans and human knot used the challenge aspect of working together to complete the game. Pictionary and the blindfolded maze used conflict, one person could not see for the blindfolded maze meaning that they had to rely on others to make it safely through the maze, and for pictionary you had to communicate without words making it a conflict to guess the item correctly. Lastly, the community and change aspect was the discussion circle. Students were able to talk about different aspects in the councils and implement new ideas that might not have been thought about before. After the activities were completed they finished off their night with some warm and cheesy pizza, freshly baked cookies, fruit, and salad before returning home for the night.
The student council is looking forward to their next biggest event which happens to be a state conference called Waterville. This event will be the first state conference of the year!

What a great idea for local high schools to get together and share ideas. GHS student council has great leaders and have been great for their class. Sharing ideas to help solve problems is a great thing.
