Conspiracy theories? Mass manipulation? Government corruption, bioterrorism, forbidden love, honestly what doesn’t this book have? I can vouch that there is never a dull moment in Legend by Marie Lu. This series is only 4 books, and it may seem like a lot for those who don’t read much but when you’re really into a book and can’t put it down? Trust me it goes by fast, maybe too fast honestly. Each and every book has the most unexpected plot turns and twists and “wait what’s?”. And I’m definitely not complaining about the romance delicately entwined in the storyline and plot like interwoven colors in a knitted scarf. Two of the most unexpected duo of friends, polar opposites and enemies that then turn to forbidden lovers in the midst of chaos? *sigh* Now that’s what I like to call “I’m reading this whole series in the span of 3 days”.
Legend
Love is no walk in the park, let alone surviving in the Republic. That is, if you were born in the lower districts. Not to mention the vicious disease clawing its way through home after home leaving no survivors. With the pandemic’s icy grip strangling citizens, strict government enforcers and soldiers hovering over you 24/7 led by cold calculating dictators and privileged government officials, what could go wrong? June, the republic’s golden girl has everything she could ever want, except her parents. Graduating early she finds herself as a high ranking officer after the sudden death of her older brother. After being given the task of finding his killer, not only does she find him, but she also finds that the republic might not be so perfect after all. Will her undying loyalty waver? Day, not only knowing the truth from the very beginning, has experienced the worst of it first hand. With the entire country on his tail, and June with them, can he get the truth out, save his family and escape to the colonies? Will June accept the truth? Find out the Legend books ;).
I think this book series makes it to my #1 favorite book series of all and that’s pretty difficult. The story of legend has all the best genres, young adult, romance, futuristic dystopian life, science fiction, It’s ultimately fantastic. Legend actually has a lot in common with The Hunger games, and has a similar concept. If this sways you in any way then that’s fabulous and I hope you choose to check out this series, I guarantee you won’t regret it. P.S We have this book series in our very own library at GHS!
