Want some fresh popcorn, Grizzly merch and good vibes? Then the school store is the perfect place to get your Grizzly merchandise. At Goffstown High School, students and faculty take pride in their school store. It has been around in the school’s business department for many years; however, this year, it received a significant upgrade in how the store uses advertisement and the merchandise is sold.
What is the school store? Olivia Georgantas says, “The school store is inside GHS that sells school merchandise, popcorn, and water to students during lunch and sometimes sporting events.” Mr. Smith is now running the school store; as he said, he is the “real financial manager,” previously run by Mrs. Scarlett for many years. Mrs. Scarlett left the role of running the store as she stepped down from being the FBLA’s (Future Business Leaders of America) advisor. Mr. Smith assigns people to work the store, organizes merchandise, keeps the new payment systems in check, etc. However, along with Mr. Smith, the current FBLA officer team runs the store, rotating shifts working the store. More specifically, a student with a significant role in the store is Olivia Georgantas; she is like the store’s “guru.” Olivia works on organizing merchandise and is a substantial part of the store’s marketing.
The FBLA officer team puts a lot of hard work and effort into running the store for the students at Goffstown High School. Their roles include making popcorn, scooping, serving, and cleaning the popcorn; organizing apparel; entering each sale into the POS system; collecting cash and card info; organizing the profits; decorating; designing; keeping track of inventory; purchasing new apparel to keep up with the seasons, and so much more. The requirements and needs of the school store are no joke, and the officer team works very hard to keep the store up and running. More specifically, this year, they have put a lot of work into revamping the store with some minor changes. Along with their new and improved products, Olivia stated, “This year, as opposed to previous years, the store is highly focused on providing new and improved apparel, fresh hot popcorn, and open consistently every day during lunch and at various sporting events.”
Aside from the school store, it is beneficial for students and faculty to buy Goffstown merchandise. The store is also an essential aspect of FBLA. If not going back into the store, all the profits ultimately support the GHS FBLA. When you buy something from the school store, you are not only buying it for yourself but also helping the store and the FBLA students improve. The store gives the FBLA officers who run it a chance to gain fundamental life business skills and experience. Since the students rotate responsibilities for the store, it allows for all of the student officers in FBLA to have the experience rather than one or two.
Regarding leadership, Olivia said, “The school store embodies leadership, creates a sense of community within GHS, and is a fun outlook that lets students dip their toes into the world of business.”
