The holiday season can bring a familiar feeling of dread to many retail workers across the country, but closing supervisor Maigan hasn’t yet let the rush of shoppers drown her spirit. As she walks into work, she carries the same hope of making “the night as easy as possible.” A sentiment most agree she achieves, with all appreciating the effort.
Sully’s is the neighborhood hotspot, so its doors are no stranger to being flooded during the highs of the day. With the chill of winter finally settling down on Goffstown, the warmth she gets by running around is finally something to be thankful for.
While working a stressful job can tend to put people on edge most days, she’s usually successful at keeping her head on straight, “I try to keep my past in mind” knowing she wasn’t always the best worker, rather than dwell on it she instead builds on it, “I think that’s why I have an easier time being patient with people.”
After losing the previous closing supervisor, close friend Alyssa, being with the AG company for a couple years now, she’s been welcomed into that role. The workload hasn’t changed much other than adding “more responsibility definitely” something she’s felt ready and willing to accept for the better part of this year.
While the workload can be unforgiving to some, Maigan still finds a way to forge ahead with a smile, as she likes “to work hard, it makes me feel good at the end of the day.” A sentiment that’s rather rare to find these days and is endlessly refreshing to be around. “Theirs community here,” and that seems to make it easier for her to enjoy her time at work, as you can usually find her working hard, or enjoying another coworker’s conversation.
Most cashiers hold similar sentiments when it comes to working nights with her, “those are my favorite nights, she just makes it easier to do your job.” senior AJ notes, a fellow cashier at Sullys. Closing can be rather hectic for cashiers trying to get chores done, while attending to customers, so Maigan tries her best to be easy on them.
While the role of closing supervisor comes with its own stressors, it hasn’t weighed down her spirit or ambitions, as she holds even more hopes for moving up in the company, as she “love the people in produce” hoping one day to be the manager for produce herself.
While the holiday season can bring down the spirits of many people stuck at work, Maigan keeps a smile present, even in the moments where it’s not easy to hold, she knows the importance and desire of keeping a calm front for the crew, she hopes the others around can be at ease, as all she hopes for people is to “be weird, be kind, and be patient.”
