Towards the end of every year is “the most wonderful time of the year,” but for some, it is rather stressful… You have the money to see family and friends, buy presents, prepare meals, mail letters, make phone calls, and so much more. It can be a lot to do, especially for the procrastinators (such as myself). Everyone talks about the presents, decorating the trees, making cookies, and spending time with family, but nobody talks about the stress you go through and the rushing around. Of course, this is not for everyone, but it is a common experience many go through. Here are the three main arguments on why the holidays can be stressful: My first reason why the holidays can be stressful is money. People have spent hundreds of dollars on others this Christmas, which was worth it to see everyone’s reaction and the joy on their faces when receiving the gift/gifts but saving and budgeting are the complex parts. You have some not-too-expensive gifts you have to buy, and then there’s the lovely necklace you want to get your mom, but it’s $200; you have to save little by little for the desired gift. Money can add up fast, and then after Christmas, you usually have to try and recover your bank account, but in the end, as I previously stated, it’s worth it.
Secondly on the list is the nightmare before Christmas, aka shopping. This has to be one of the most stressful events during the holidays. Every store is packed, so you can forget about going to the malls, especially on black Friday, so don’t go shopping. The crowds are awful; the employees aren’t all “Holly and Jolly,” and the deals are hardly deals. Everyone is running around trying to get this and that before Christmas, with the time just flying past us all. Don’t even get me started on figuring out and finding what you want to buy; this is not easy in addition to shopping.
Lastly, socializing for hours with family you see once a year or so. Don’t get me wrong, I love all my family, friends, and family members, and it’s great to get back together even if it’s once a year, but sometimes it’s hard to keep the conversation going, and it’s always the same, something along the lines of “How’s school going?” and then what? It can be hard sometimes to talk to someone you don’t typically talk to daily.
In conclusion, I love the holidays, but I would be lying if I said I don’t get a little stressed with it all during the season; I read this article to my mom, and she even said, “I agree with this.” but in the end, it always turns out OK, and everyone is happy. Remember that nothing lasts forever, and don’t forget to enjoy these times with the people you love.
