There are lots of sports here at Goffstown High School such as soccer, basketball, football etc.… but there’s one team that does tricks, floor, vault, bars, and beams: Gymnastics. This team does it all. Not only do they have cool tricks, but they also have the positive energy every team needs.
The team is coached by Meg Norkem but helped along the way with team captain Vannessa Osbourne (GHS senior) and team manager Faith Brown (GHS senior). They work really hard with practices on Monday and Wednesday from 6-8 for the 8 meets they have during the 3-month winter season.
The team is having a good season so far. They are currently 2nd in the Sappline scoring system. Captain Vannessa Osbourne says “We scored a 138 at a meet” which also happens to be one of her favorite memories of the season. The season currently consists of 2 meets left.
The main thing this team has is positivity. As junior, Nikki Keyes, has phrased the environment as “uplifting.” The team participates in team bonding activities, cheering each other on, and even writing little notes for each other. This is a good factor in the sport as Vanessa Osbourne has said “Gymnastics can have a lot of impact on your body and be mentally challenging at times.” The team consists of a lot of underclassmen, team bonding, and positivity.
Gymnastics brings people together and you form friendships. Both Nikki and Vanessa mentioned the friendships in the sport and what it means to them. Vannessa Osbourne says, “your teammates become your best friends.” Nikki Keyes says, “You get to see your friends do what they love.” Gymnastics is a great after school activity with Nikki saying, “It’s something to do after school and a workout for you.”
