Goffstown High School students participated in the NH Construction Career Days field trip for students interested in blue collar work. There were several different schools in attendance. The field trip was hosted at the New Boston 4-H grounds on September 27, 2024.
According to John Heafield, a GHS student who attended the trip, there were many interesting parts. The most interesting to him was the “hands on demonstrations such as climbing the linesman towers.” He also said another interesting part was the excavation and construction equipment show where students were able to run the machines and use excavators to dig into the earth.
More interesting information shared with students, according to Jacob Ryan, another GHS student in attendance was that the employees who climb cell towers can make up to $20,000 per climb of the tower. One of the best things he learned was how to operate the equipment. He stated that “it might be one of the coolest things I’ve learned how to do.”
Both John and Jacob said they had a ton of fun and would most definitely do it again if the school hosted another field trip similar to this one.
