The GHS Girls Varsity Volleyball team had a hard match against Pinkerton Academy at the semi-final tournament. They had a strong start to the match. Though points were cut close they still managed to win the first two sets.
At the end of the second set, middle Casey Rivard got injured. Coach Lindsey Edwards said “It was the middle towards the end of the second set and she was doing great. She was putting up a lot of great blocks. Pinkerton had a really great middle hitter that Casey was up against. She was doing a great job but her injury- though she played through it she played through a really long point she was just unable to continue” They had subs for the rest of the game.
Edwards stated, “The girls that stepped in were really really great and they did such a great job in such a high intensity moment.” Every set after the first two was tough. Sets three and four were close, both being losses within two points. The last set was close also being within two points but unfortunately varsity lost the set. After the game the coaches and the girls processed the loss together.
Mrs. Edwards said “As expected we had a lot of emotions right as the game ended, that final point a lot of emotions surged through. But what I saw immediately when we went to the back and we processed it together was just all hugging, and they took it really seriously which I appreciated. Especially the seniors, we had 8 seniors graduating so that was a really emotional piece for them.”
The match was hard on the team, but Coach John Webb said, “The varsity girls have the most spirit that I’ve ever seen on any team.” and they took the loss extremely well. This was the first time in years the Varsity girls have made it to semi-finals. They played a total of 22 games this season and won over half of those games. Coaches say that it was an amazing experience for everybody. Even though the girls lost this is still an extremely historical event for Goffstown.
