The final buzzer rang out through the GHS gym, marking the end of the January 14th, basketball game against the Windham Jaguars. The final score, 56-27, moved the girls to 1-6. However, the Grizzlies kept their heads high, as they found positive takeaways from the game.
Although the team struggled to score, everyone on the court continued to give 100% of their effort, for the entire game.
Senior captain, Peyton Duff, expressed how she “loved seeing everyone working together on the court.” She continued, describing how “everyone knew the score, but they didn’t let it affect them very much.” The team was able to rely on each other, and everyone pushed each other to play better. Duff hopes this will help them play better in upcoming games.
Another positive was the team’s ability to adapt quickly. After the first half, the team was able to discuss what the problems were and made sure to fix them in the second half.
Another captain, Meredith Winterburn, described how she was excited to finally see the adaptability by the team. She explains how they “struggled with rebounding in the first half but excelled in the second.”
Finally, the entire team agreed that they all played together, and for each other during the game. Instead of yelling at others over the score, the entire team was able to come together and lift each other up.
“It was great,” Duff describes, “no one hung their heads, and everyone lifted each other up after a mistake.” Winterburn agrees, explaining how it made it easier for everyone to play, because there wasn’t any stress from the players.
Despite the loss, the team found the game to be productive, as they were able to excel in other parts of the game. Duff found that “[they] all played together,” meaning they will “win more games in the future.”
