In planning school events like Homecoming. Mia Brissette, the treasurer for her class and the council, also plays a big role in organizing activities. Both student council and homecoming committee decide what the spirit days are, what games are played at the pep rally, the organizational parts of the homecoming committee and deciding the grade dance themes.
Emma shared the student council meets biweekly to brainstorm spirit day themes. Members each list ten ideas, narrow them to five, then consult the adviser and administration to choose each spirit day. Emma also said the student council and Homecoming committee decide on the pep rally games each year. “We always have dodgeball,” Emma added. Emma also mentioned some of the new pep rally games, including the wig snatch, musical chairs, the three-legged race, and more.
The homecoming committee and Senora McKinnon go through materials they might need in order to meet all the needs. They either bring stuff from home or they make a budget from the grant they get that year and divide it out throughout the year. Daniel Filer and Mr. Desrochers both record and post videos for the grizzly buzz. They helped the student council organize and plan the filming of everything.
Emma expects from the crowd that they all show up and participate in the activities, along with respecting others and the other classes. Emma said “overall respect and involvement”
Mia also exclaimed she wanted to see other students to “have a good time”
Mia went to all the homecoming meetings and observed and participated in them too. Mia wanted to see a lively crowd at this year’s pep rally, with everyone engaged in the activities and showing school spirit. When it comes to choosing the grade dance themes she said that the homecoming committee needs to make it easy to dance to and they also have a lot of options for music. Mia shared that the homecoming committee ‘had a few ideas’ for each option for the class dance.
According to Mia, Homecoming Week is scheduled, based on the last home football game of the season. In reflecting on this year’s spirit days, Mia highlighted two standout spirit days: Class Colors Day and “Nobody’s Gonna See Me” Day. These were the days students dressed up the most. Although those were the most popular, Mia said her personal favorite was Holiday Day. She also mentioned she’s rooting for the seniors to win this homecoming. Summing up the week, Mia kept it simple: “It overall went well.”
