Girls varsity volleyball takes on big opponents as they battle through the season. The girls have fought through the season winning many games in tight five set battles, including Hollis Brookline and Concord. On October 14 at 6:30 they will take on a strong team, Bishop Guertin, at home.
Senior captain, Alex Uhlmann says, “we must work our hardest while still having fun and playing like we want it.” Throughout the season the team has shown this by beating top teams such as Salem High School. Junior outside, Reece Still said “My back row is my strongest suit and I have been pushing hard to get better all season.” The girls are coming into this game with strong intentions knowing they are facing a good team. The girls have both said their energy on the court and the bench have made a huge impact on how their team runs. They say their best games are played with a loud gym and lots of smiles.
While energy impacts their playing, the girls have spent lots of time on serve receive to increase their level of play. Reece went on to explain the importance of the crowd and the bench, and the effectiveness of cheers. The girls spend time working on communication to set up a good defense which will then push the offense forward. While they focus on little aspects of play, they put it all together throughout their games to finish with a season the girls said they were proud of. Yes, winning is important but overcoming challenges and hardships was this team’s best achievement this year.
After losing eight seniors and being a brand new team, they had to reset and make the best. They absolutely did this by encouraging and positivity throughout hours of practice and training. They pushed barriers and played a brand new starting lineup to continue this season.
The BG game ended in a 3-1 loss with every set being close. Each player had their moments and all together made improvements on serve receive and energy. Reece continued on by saying they lost but “we put up a fight and are going to bring high energy and intensity to finish off the season.”
Tonight they will host “Senior Night” thanking and celebrating their four seniors: Allie Kelly, Casey Rivard, Madi Giordano, and Alex Uhlmann. “I’m extremely blessed to be able to come back this season and play with my girls. Our record truly does not reflect the team we have been the past couple months.”

Well written Allie! I liked what you said about high energy. Any volleyball game I’ve ever been to has been electric and it makes it really fun to watch! I agree that sometimes you have to focus on more than wins and losses, because that is what will make you better and more cohesive!

Allie, I really loved your statement: “Yes, winning is important but overcoming challenges and hardships was this team’s best achievement this year.” That perspective is powerful and so needed in today’s sports culture. As athletes, of course, we strive to win but I believe more young athletes need to broaden their understanding of what winning truly means. Winning isn’t just about the scoreboard; it’s about resilience, growth, and the ability to rise through adversity. It’s learning to adapt, to push through setbacks, and to come out stronger on the other side. That kind of victory, earned through grit and growth, is just as meaningful, if not more.
