GHS will host the play She Kills Monsters on November 13th and 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the Hieber Theater. The play is about a girl named Agnes who is mourning her younger sister’s death. Both sisters are completely different. Tilly likes Dungeons and Dragons while Agnes likes shopping. Agnes finds a notebook with a Dungeons and Dragons adventure that Tilly has created, so she decides to play it to feel more connected and learn about her sister. The play takes place in Athens, Ohio in the 90’s with the main characters Agnes and Tilly, and another main character, Chucks Bigs. He is a Dungeons and Dragons master who helps Agnes. A message the play conveys is that it’s important to be yourself doing what you love and to have people to support you no matter what or who you are. Mrs. Okeefe, the director, said she chose this play because “It’s funny and heartfelt with well-developed characters.”

Kacey Palmer, a senior, who is playing Tilly, feels “playing Tilly Evans in She Kills Monsters is a daunting task.” Even though the role is a comedic one, it also requires a lot of physical acting which includes combat and sword fighting. Kacey says she is “extremely grateful to be playing such a significant role” and for the opportunity to learn new things.
Andrew Tanuma, who plays Chuck, is excited to have the opportunity to play a lead role with such a complicated character. He believes, “you’ll have some big fun when you come to see me as Chuck Biggs.”
Tayler Currier, who plays Agnes, “loved exploring Agnes’ character in the past couple months of working on this show, and [is] so excited to bring her to life on stage.”
Finally, the show would not come to life without the tech crew behind the scenes. Lily Fedock, a member of the tech crew works to support the assembling and building of props and set pieces while also assisting in the management of the mics for the actors and other necessary technical aspects to be sure the show runs smoothly with props and set changes. Lily finds “being a part of the tech crew a very fun experience” and she looks forward to seeing the show come together.
