Forks clanging, knives cutting, people talking, and the aroma of coffee in the air. Veterans and students conversing around the library.
Students, staff, and community members gathered on the 5th of November for the annual Veterans Day Breakfast, hosted by the Student Council, to honor local veterans for their service.
The event began at 8:00 a.m., as veterans from different branches of the military were greeted by Student Council members and guided to tables. A breakfast spread featuring pastries and fruit was served while the school council student talk to the vets.
Seven veterans attended, making this one of the smallest turnouts in recent years.
This event has been around for more than 25 years and organizers say it continues to evolve. Advisor Ms. Mckinnon said, “The event used to be school wide and now is only attended by the student council”
The Student Council plans to continue the tradition next year.
Veteran Don Chapman, who served in the navy, shared his appreciation, “I love coming here every year and talking to the students.”
