Freshmen across the school are preparing for midterms for the very first time. Midterms are held Tuesday 1/20 through Friday 1/23. During midterms week, classes are not held as normal, instead two blocks will be held each day, with half an hour between exams and a make-up period after lunch. Students who are not taking exams are expected to be in the library or the cafeteria. PREPs do not meet during exam week.
Freshman Natalie Small is most nervous about her English, Spanish, and Geometry exams. Small has “studied with [her] friends” to prepare for the exams. One of her concerns is “how long the tests are going to be.”
Another student, freshman Lily Brown, is most worried about Biology. “I reviewed my lab notebook and made sure that all the vocab terms in my packet were in my book,” says Brown. She is concerned about what will happen if she doesn’t finish in time. She is also worried about what to do with extra time after finishing. Her goal is to simply try her best. Another exam she is worried about is AP Human Geography.
Freshman Siobhan McGarty is studying by using notecards and practicing the things she has made mistakes on in the past. McGarty follows the advice “to use all resources given to you.” The exams she is most concerned about are Biology and Algebra 2, as well as Spanish because of all the vocab.
Senior Cassy Dorn gives the advice that she has learned “over the years that the finals aren’t that difficult as people make them seem.” She advises students to use study guides, flashcards, and Quizlet to help, and use all the resources that teachers provide. Freshman Natalie Small says the best advice she has received is, “it’s not going to kill you but it’s not going to help you,” and that “it’s only worth ten percent.”
