This year, Goffstown High School’s FBLA chapter attended their annual Fall Leadership Workshop (FLW) at the Paul College of Business in the University of New Hampshire on October 9. FLW is a statewide event that allows high school students all around New Hampshire to come together and learn more about business. At the workshop, FBLA members had the opportunity to hear speakers that they wouldn’t get the chance to listen to in their classroom environment and learn new skills that will assist them in becoming an entrepreneur.
FLW took place at Paul School of business in University of New Hampshire for the first time this year. The decision to hold this year’s workshop at the University of New Hampshire was made with the intention of making sure students get the most out of FLW. “It was thought that it would be a great experience, especially for upperclassmen to see what the university looked like and if there might be more opportunities for them there,” explained Daisy Atkinson, Goffstown High School’s FBLA chapter Advisor. By having FLW held on the campus of University of New Hampshire, FBLA shows its commitment to making sure students get a more professional experience out of FLW.
Those who don’t plan on going into business in the future may not find the idea of attending FLW appealing, but according to FBLA member Amelia Laidlaw, this event can be valuable for all. “It opens students’ eyes, even if they are not interested in going into business, because I know personally, I’m not at all. But going to FLW and being a part of FBLA. It makes me interested.” states Laidlaw. Laidlaw’s opinion makes it clear that FLW is something that can benefit everyone, no matter their interests.
FLW seems to be an event that can be useful to students, especially for those who may want to become entrepreneurs in the future. However, it is an opportunity that is only offered to members of FBLA, so it may not get as much recognition from the students at Goffstown High School. If students are interested in pursuing a career in business, then they should consider joining FBLA, especially since Daisy Atkinson claims that it will help people learn essential business skills.
