Goffstown School District’s Cornerstone Award, established in 2001, “recognizes outstanding achievements by staff members, as well as community members working within our schools who have demonstrated outstanding support of student learning” (Cornerstone Award Description). The Cornerstone Award can be awarded to an individual, a department, or organization.
Individuals selected for this award have exceeding service to both the educational environment and the greater Goffstown community. The selection process is not quick, with nominations beginning in December and recognition in February. Any staff or community member of Goffstown may submit nominations under the following categories: custodial and maintenance service, food service, secretarial service, administration, resource service, community education, volunteer, special education, and general education. The process of selection is determined through the many levels of the Goffstown School Board. Nominations are reviewed by the Planning and Communications Subcommittee and Superintendent. The subcommittee then brings the selected nominees to the full Board for discussion. The recipients are then recognized at a School Board meeting.
This year, Goffstown High School’s very own Señora McKinnon was one of the recipients. Señora McKinnon is Goffstown High School’s (GHS) Full Student Council Advisor and a Spanish educator at GHS. Magistra Vanderpool, a close colleague and friend of Señora says “Her contributions to the school community are innumerable and significant. Both in the classroom and in [Student Council], she pushes students to be their very best versions of themselves and always puts students at the center of her practice”. Students lucky enough to have Señora can see her consistent dedication and passion for teaching Spanish.
Señora said that it “meant a lot that [her] peers, colleagues, and students thought [she] was worthy” of this award.
¡Felicitaciones Señora!
