The girls’ varsity soccer team defeated the Red Raiders of Spaulding 8-0 on Oct. 8. The team’s record is now 11-2-1 and Spaulding’s record is 2-12-0. The team is ranked in fifth and are constantly moving up. Players on the team are very happy with the way they played, and the coaching technique of that game.
Peyton Duff, a senior on the girls’ varsity soccer team, gave her insight on the events of the Goffstown-Spaulding game. Duff claims she was happy with the amount of minutes everyone got to play, saying that it helped keep team morale up. Peyton also noted that the team had “good passing and a lot of attempts on goal.” She summarized the game, describing the team’s positive attitude and strong passing as the keys to their success. Duff ended the interview stating that “all in all, it was a good game.” She believes if the team continues to play like that, then Nashua South will be another win for the girls.
Rose and Grace Houde, two juniors on the Varsity Soccer team, also gave their opinions on the game. Rose Houde — who scored two goals for the team — claimed that the team’s shooting and ability to score was what the team did best. However, Grace Houde claimed that the team’s ability to “let everyone play” was what the team did best. The Houde’s ended the interview, confidently stating that it was “a good team win.”
Both Duff and the Houde’s agreed that the teams’ main struggle was their energy and effort throughout the game. Duff stated that the team began to put in less effort as the score continued to increase, and that they could’ve scored even more than 8. Grace Houde agreed, stating that the girl’s “played down to their level” and didn’t play as well as they could’ve. Despite this, the girls were still able to pull out a strong win.
All around, the team had good ball movement and teamwork, which was all they needed to defeat the Spaulding soccer team. They will play Nashua South next, where the girls expect to get another win under their belt.
