Following matchups with Bow and Portsmouth, GHS seniors celebrated with a senior night ceremony for seniors James Lavigne, Brady LaBier, and Alex Veary. The varsity golf team took on Bow and Portsmouth on Oct. 3, at Stonebridge country club. Other seniors who did not participate in the final varsity match were Eli Dillaway and Max Oullette. The team posted a 211, however falling short of Bow shooting a 204 and Portsmouth winning the match with a 192.
Although Goffstown could not get it done on senior night they had a very successful season overall. They finished the regular season with a record of 15-13, which is their best record in the past five years. The Grizzlies missed out on qualifying for states by one win, but overall it was a great season for Goffstown. Senior James Lavigne reflected on his last four years on the golf team and asserted, “This has been one of the best things that I have ever been a part of and I am happy that it happened and not sad that it is over.”
Goffstown missed out on qualifying for states as a team by one win. They needed Saint Thomas to lose to Portsmouth, Oyster River, and Winnacunnet. However Saint Thomas beat Winnacunnet and ended up qualifying for states which means Goffstown did not. When your team doesn’t qualify for states you can send two individual players. The two players Goffstown sent were Ryan Dutton and James Lavigne. They went on to shoot 84 and 83 respectfully. This was a successful season overall as it was GHS’s best record in five years. When asked about the season overall head coach Ryan Cowette said, “I am extremely proud of what the team was able to accomplish this year and I’m happy I was able to be a part of it.”
